I’m now on Page 5, but still not the Page 3 girl

That makes me really happy that I can have over 5 pages of paintings that I’ve been happy with enough to sell, or ones that have sold. The page count would be higher but unfortunately I don’t have some images of some previous work that I’ve sold or done for commissions. I’m at least taking a step in the right direction and getting images of all the work that leaves my hands (or doesn’t).

If you only have a limited amount of time to check out my stuff (who has free time these days?), please look at Binary Glow and Excess 2. Binary Glow is a commission piece I just finished and Excess 2 is a painting that I worked on for over a year. It’s weird to think about two paintings that I’ve done that took over a year each to accomplish.

For those playing the game, you might notice a painting on there that I had up previously. I took it down and worked on it more because it felt incomplete. I think it has a much more realistic approach of what I really wanted it to look like.

I finally put Wax + Glue up (pictured above). This is something I went over back and forth in my head if I want to sell. I’ve loved it since I did it and wanted to be an art hog (like what I’m doing with Max Payne’s Dream). I don’t have a price because I just couldn’t put one.

Comments or helpful critiques are always welcome. Happy Painting! (I have my Bob Ross shirt on atm, what do you expect out of me?!) Before I end this, I hope a few people get the joke in that title.

Off to the races

The semester has begun again. It’s exciting and will be very entertaining. Already, the state has been bombarded with snow to cancel classes and the snow might continue through the weekend. I would rather be in class than stuck at home but shoveling snow is a good workout.

I’m going to do a major update of my site this weekend, as long as I get back my edited pictures in time. I’ve been working hard on a lot of things and it’s a little bit of a pain to do updating. That’s why I wait to do a bunch of it at once, so it’s not so annoying.

One of the pictures that will be going up is a painting I just finished for my parents, as a gift to some of their friends. I will post a blog about it and others, hopefully either Saturday or Sunday.

I don’t want to just leave you with new info and nothing visual. This is one of the pictures I took yesterday when I went walking out during the aforementioned snow storm.

Absentee Peer

I guess I’m just writing this because I feel as if I have been slacking dearly with my frequent readers. I have been running around during this winter break so much and I have neglected to comment on a few bloggers for the past little bit. I and probably going to go full force to make up for it over the remaining few days I have left into next week. The semester starts on Monday, but during that time, I won’t be crammed with a lot of work to accomplish so I’m not in any need to get things done to some incredible fast drastic speed.

I do want to at least let everyone know that during this time I have not wasted it blindly but I’ve accomplished much. I have a lot in the works and I will be sharing more and more as time progresses. I’ll be posting my latest painting in a day or two. I’m excited about the new semester starting tomorrow!

New Piece

I am working on a new painting. It’s actually finalizing a trade. My dad hosts my website and so I am making a painting for some of their friends to pay him back. It’s a good thing, since I get to paint something for free (he paid for supplies) and I still have my website and will continue to have it hosted.  Win/win for both parties.

Here is the quick sketch I drew on the canvas. The canvas size is 36” x 18”

I’m not going to show it through its process. I have tons of time gaps and crunches throughout this project, which sucks but there isn’t anything I can do about it. At the very least I will post a picture of when it’s complete. That will be sooner than you think.

What I have kept hidden from you

Now that Christmas is over and most of the gifts have been given out, I can now show pictures. I am still a little reluctant but I don’t want to be secretive forever. Here are a few shots from the extra work I did, making a handful of gifts for family and friends.

Shot Glasses:

I made twenty-two of them total. Not all of them turned out how I wanted, but I am ultimately pleased with the results. I wanted to make my ceramic class time as valuable as I possibly could.

Coffee Mugs:

I only made four of these. One I didn’t have extra clay to spare, since I didn’t want to buy an extra bag for the remainder of my bust. I wish I was able to have tested more color combos and known exactly what I wanted out of them. I am very happy with the way the mugs turned out.

Staying till 6-7pm almost every night the last three weeks of school paid off. I still wish I could take Ceramics 2 so that all my knowledge wouldn’t go to waste. I’m content with the way things turned out. I’ll be posting about a new painting I will be working over the break. I bought supplies yesterday and I’m excited. Hopefully, I’ll be able to start working on it tomorrow.

Ceramics Reflection

Now that I won’t be doing any more ceramics, excluding using a small amount of clay I have left to make an item or two, I figure I chat about my whole experience.

I went into the class due to class scheduling. I had talked to my professor beforehand asking if I should take it or not, since I had heard so many good things about it from a friend that took it. He told me I should take the Drawing 2 class since it would help me as a painter, which is right. Though there was only one Drawing 2 class and it was once a week from 6-10pm. Pass on that… So it was an easy choice and I took Ceramics 1.

I didn’t really have too much of an idea of what I was getting myself into. I just knew that I was going to be doing stuff with my hands a lot more than what I do with painting. I also didn’t join a class that I knew anyone prior to either so that was another side of a fresh start. About half the students in the class had taken a ceramics class in high school. They didn’t have a ceramics room in my high school till after my younger brother left. My “oh so elite” high school was even more pathetic comparatively speaking.

Anyway, the class assignments went ok. The first two projects faired much better than the third. In order we had to do: A coil pot, a “bucket” pot and a bust of your own head.

The coil pot was a fun way to learn how to make something with your hands from a blank 25lb bag of earthenware clay. I really enjoyed it even though I did have a few hiccups. The only draw back to the project was that we had to re-create a pot we brought in. We couldn’t stray from it.

The “bucket” piece was my favorite. First, I was able to have 100% creative power within a few rules, so that was great. Second, it was made with slabs over coils. Coils became such an annoyance by the time I was done with the coil pot. I am also a ton better at making slabs, though my wedging kind of sucks.

The last assignment was a nightmare. Not only do I hate looking at myself (this is a narcissists’ wet dream) but I did learn that we aren’t always who we think we are. Our voices sound different to us in our heads than what we hear when played back. Our faces are very different from when we look at ourselves. We tend to take all those comments from others about a big nose, small lips or round cheeks to a learned reality and so when we look in a mirror we exaggerate those features so much so. From a wisdom standpoint, this project was good but from a ceramic view, I didn’t get it. If you go onto Ceramics’ 2/3/4 you never do head features ever again. I’m sure you can transfer some of the knowledge but you don’t utilize those specific skills again (i.e. making lips).

My over-all feeling toward the class left with a very torn opinion. I am happy and sad that I took the class. First I am happy because I grew artistically. Learning the basics of a different form of art is always something that can be good, if you enjoy the art form or not. The bad part is split into one thing I don’t want to talk about and one thing I do. The part I want to explain was that I set myself up for failure. It’s a common phrase in the military “Don’t set yourself up for failure” and ultimately I did. Ceramics doesn’t count as an art credit and because of this I can’t take Ceramics 2. I need that other art class and so I choose painting (duh!) and it’s at the same time as Ceramics 2 and there is only 1 class. I sort of let myself down so that I can’t progress in the art and in some ways it feels like I wasted part of my time.

Ultimately, I don’t regret taking the class. I just wish things could have worked out different so I wouldn’t have this feeling of disappointment. My teacher did say that he didn’t mind if I used the remainder of my clay and that I could have it fired. I don’t have too much left but I will be able to make an item or two. I will wait till the beginning of next semester to touch it.

Song: Interpol – All of the Ways. It’s fitting for the above post, among other parts of my life.

We got a winner! (I hope everyone caught the movie reference)

So yes, I have promised that I would be announcing the winner of the give-a-way today and without further wait…(drumroll, I can do one of those fo realz)…

Whoever has lucky number 8 step forward.

Well done Jay, you sir have won. And let me show you what you have obtained…(second drumroll, because I can)…

Congrats!

I hope everyone had a merry Christmas. I know mine was just a smidge off perfect, so I really can’t complain. Thanks to everyone that played along. It was lots of fun because I get to keep the Christmas feeling of giving rolling for a little bit longer. At least until I ship this baby on a journey over yonder.

Just a quick reminder, I do have a lot of posts that I will make shortly. I have been trapped in my house and the snow is not letting me go. I also had to wait till it was Christmas to showcase a few items I have. The world will know secrets very shortly! Mwuahahahahahahaha!

Song: Zelda Theme from Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I am picking this song based off a Christmas gift I received. A few people sure showed me how much they care about me.
