Painting Class Project Update

After the mid-term critique, we’ve had another assignment added and I need to re-assess what’s going on in that class and what’s needed. Sometimes with art, lost in translation is the most common phrase used. Not understanding why comments were made, or grades were given out are making me confused.

I also have a hitch with my latest piece that I’ve been working on. Nothing too major, as of now… I am going to start planning out the paintings that I can get done. I have tons on my plate. Hopefully I’ll get a lot done on this spring break.

One of the pictures I am using for my portrait painting.

Painting Class Project #6

We had our mid-term critique today. I have so much more work to do on a few of my pieces that will bring them together in some manner. I’m not happy with two, I need to work on my time piece a bunch more and I have one that I’m happy with but I guess I need to re-work some of it.

I was a little annoyed since when my still life painting was commented on, I followed those comments and changed the painting based on those comments. Now more comments have been brought forth that weren’t previously mentioned, and these weren’t nit-picky comments either. I guess you can’t please everyone. I will alter what I want to please myself and be done with it.

As I mentioned I still have to work on my time piece. The background is mostly done but the foreground will be worked over heavily. Enjoy the pics, but remember that this is a work in progress. Dimensions are 12” x 48” x 1.5

I feel as if I’m ready to divulge the secretive info for the last few weeks. I am going to be creating another blog. This one will be a general blog that will discuss many non-art items. One main feature of the blog will be beer reviews. I’m not sure of the name for the beer review section yet. Do you think “Yeast Infection” is too strong?

Painting Class Project: #5

Time has been stripped from me this past weekend. I acquired my yearly illness, and began noticing symptoms Thursday. I didn’t accomplish much this weekend. I wanted to be much further along with my Time Painting than I am. I was miserable in class working on it as well. Sometimes I can be a jerk, I won’t lie.

But I digress…the Time piece should be finished for the mid-term critique next Monday. So that would mean I’ll have a picture up in time for next week’s post. AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!!! Not really, but I can imagine it if I want to.

Now onto info about the real painting #5, I have a few ideas and I will be narrowing it down to be able to start working on it roughly Wednesday. I have a great deal of planning I have to do, and I need to do a little bit of studying. If anyone is expecting a normal portrait painting, you must have clicked on the wrong blog. (insert lolz)

One last tidbit about the blogging news I briefly mentioned last week. I still have a lot of work to do on it, and I may have jumped the gun just a tad. I will be able to deliver something around late March. I’m probably going to do most of the work during my spring break. (insert manboobz nudity!) One bit of give-a-way info, this is for the Adult Crowd. (insert regular nudity)

Song: Donna De Lory – Samba Sadashiva. I needed to listen to something calm to help clear my brain.

Painting Class Project: #4

To begin, I will deliver on my Still Life painting. Do note, I needed to tweak two things on it before it was done.  Take a guess what. People enjoyed it and I am really proud of it. I normally don’t do still life pieces but setting this one up with personal items, over a stupid bowl of fruit gave the painting more substance and meaning.

And you might wonder why there is only a painting of the Still Life and not one of the current assignments. Well I’m not even close to being done with the Time assignment. I have the idea and concept. The background is mostly finished; I am currently working on the mid-ground. The good news is that we have a “catch-up” week, so I will be able to work on this for an extra week along with other pieces.

We were notified that in two weeks, we’ll be working on the self-portrait. I will be thinking about what I want to do for that. My teacher is really good about not limiting us in what we want to do, even making the self portrait something that’s representative and not actual.

I have a surprise coming up, but I’m not even close to being ready to spill the beans, so you’ll have to wait, In the meantime, let me know what’s on your brain.

Song: Animals As Leaders – CAFO. I’m going to buy this cd as soon as I get a chance; it’s impressive to say the least.

So you may be wondering why I don’t have a picture to go along with this week’s assignment. Well I haven’t finished it. Currently it’s about 90% done. I need to do a few more things and finalize with a few details. I normally don’t paint still life, but I really had lots of fun with this one.

I have a feeling that I might not be done with the next painting on time either since the first idea I already have for it requires a lot of work and it would take more than the allotted week. I have to figure out exactly what I’m going to do.

I promise I will have at least one picture to showcase next week. Pinky swear! (unless I’m dead)

Painting Class Project: #2

This painting was supposed to incorporate tons of colors and didn’t have to be any particular theme. Tons of color wasn’t expressed correctly and so I ended up painting a muted winter mountain scene that needed more color. After my let down, I went up to the school store and bought a canvas to work on a new painting. I laid down a bunch of paint to more or less do the assignment.

After a little bit, something more substantial hit me, and I figured out an interesting way to get something that had some substance done. I’m not sure what’s going on with the class but I’m not having much luck with the assignments. It turned out sub-par and I need to re-do the piece. The work I do for the class looks like mediocre student art. Weird (and annoying).

Let me know what you think.

Painting Class Project: #1

So I recently completed my first painting project for class. It was supposed to be a grid painting with a few other various elements and rules applied to it. I honestly hate the way it turned out. The thought of “If you try and fail, don’t try again unless you have what you need to succeed” was re-enforced. I didn’t have the correct materials to get what I wanted done and so I did what I could with what I had.

The only reason why I’m leaving it for the time being is I don’t want to paint over it since I don’t have a new idea. Also, the class enjoyed it and my teacher liked it. So I figure why touch it if I don’t need to (for the time being anyway). I might be selling or re-painting all of the student work I will be doing during the course. Depends on what I produce, so stay vigilante and informed!

With the reminder that this is student work, let me know what you think.

Song:  Daniel Johnston – True love will find you in the end. I’m posting this one for a dear friend. Keep your head and heart held high.
